Chakras are 'wheels' with free flowing positive energy

The chakra is a focal point in ancient meditation practices. The chakras translate to "wheels" in Sanskrit, (an ancient Indian language), and you can imagine them like wheels of free-flowing positive energy.

A chakra is an energy center in the human body as taught in Indian yoga and some related cultures. Chakras are also believed in by some New Age adherents. Chakra means ‘Aneel or wheel' in Sanskrit.

A chakra is an area in the body connected with life energy. They form part of a subtle energy body, along with the energy channels, or nadis, and the subtle winds, or pranas.

There are seven chakras in the body - each is an interface for the flow of life energy. A chakra vitalizes a physical body and is associated with interactions of a physical or mental nature.

The seven chakras are:

  • Base or Root chakra (Muladhara) - RED [Grounding, Security, Power}
  • Navel or Sacral chakra (Swadhisthana) - ORANGE {Emotions, Creativity}
  • Solar plexus chakra (Manipura) - YELLOW {Willpower, Confidence, Intellect}
  • Heart chakra (Anahata) - GREEN {Love, Empathy, Service, Healing}
  • Throat chakra (Vishuddha) - BLUE {Communication and Self Expression}
  • Third eye chakra (Ajna) - PURPLE {Wisdom, Intuition, Inner Vision}
  • Crown chakra (Sahasrara) - VIOLET / WHITE {Higher Self, Purpose, Divine}

When you think of the chakras, remember that they are energy centers, (meaning "spinning wheels" in Sanskrit). They are not anatomical structures in the body but are 'clusters of oscillating energy'.

(Now that makes a great mental image!) Namaste.
